General Information
Mason has installed a new voice mail system because the old system is no longer supported by the vendor. Our new system is CallXpress or CX, a product of Applied Voice and Speech Technologies (AVST). We will refer to our system as just voice mail. Your mailbox number has not changed. However, if you have not already done so, please set up your new voice mailbox now; your new voice mail messages will be accessible once this is done.
Once you have set up your new voice mailbox, review one or more of the following for the most frequently used prompts:
- Single user mailbox prompts
- Shared extension mailbox prompts
(Message waiting indicator lights will NEVER come on for those who share an extension.)
- New and old (still in use) keypad prompts

The new voice mail system is a unified communications system that offers a host of exciting new features, including:
- Caller ID—caller ID is available for all messages, even those from off campus callers.
- Voice mail by e-mail—receive your voice mail messages by e-mail. This unified communications system offers simplified unified messaging at no cost to you. Please request this feature with your Telecom Coordinator.
- Cascading notification—you can be notified of new messages from up to nine different telephone numbers.
- Urgent message retrieval—you can choose the order in which you want your messages played to you—oldest, newest, or urgent messages first.
- Message notification filters—you can select to be notified of certain message types or messages from specific senders; this is particularly useful when you’re away from the office and expecting a call from someone.
- And many more!
To access your voice mail messages on the new system, dial 703-993-4500, or x3-4500 from your extension, and use your new voice mail password/security code.
